Why is distressed denim so popular? Historically, ripped, torn, shredded and frayed jeans were a symbol of rebelliousness, nonconformity, and self-expression. Distressed jeans deliberately rebelled against the perfectly tailored, dark-dyed-and-pressed designer jeans of the '70s and '80s that were more about status, conformity and mass-production.
Frayed denim has been a statement of rebellion, independence, and nonconformity. Like flakes of snow, no two pairs of frayed and distressed jeans are exact matches. Much of the distressing process in designer denim is done by hand, and as you wear the denim, your frays, rips and tears take shape to match your body and lifestyle.
Our designers have introduced a new trend in distressed denim, where rebellious overlaps with bougie. They've taken the distressed, destroyed and frayed denim techniques and, instead of randomly placed rips and tears, they've created intentional patterns and designs. The result? A rebellious look that is more polished and put together. You're still a rebel, but you like your defiance to be a little organized.
Distressed jeans means, in fashion terms: Distressed fabrics either have natural wear and tear or the clothing maker used special techniques to treat the surface of the fabric to make it look faded, wrinkled or well-worn. The style typically applies to denim, especially jeans. It's equally popular among male and female styles, especially for streetwear aesthetics, hip-hop and grunge, as well as boho-chic.

The degree of distressed ranges from small holes, rips and snaps to full-on super-distressed, spider-like shredded jeans.

Deconstructed meaning in fashion: A deconstructed garment adopts an unfinished look, as if the designer or clothing-maker left the work incomplete. The deconstructed fashion trend includes raw hem jeans, where the fabric is left loose to fray naturally. You also see the deconstructed look at seams, where excess fabric is left to linger on the outside, almost giving an inside-out appearance.

Deconstructing clothes and take two approaches. The first is to simply leave hems and seams unfinished during the sewing process. There may be some additional techniques where the edges are roughed up and frayed by hand. The second is where the garment is sewn "normally," with neatly stitched hems and seams, then put through a washing and fading process to age the material. After that, the hems and seams are deconstructed, creating a well-worn look.

The deconstructed hem is popular among stacked jeans, which you can find in RSO's online hip-hop and urban clothing shop.

Frayed jeans meaning: Frayed refers to fabric that has been worn or shredded at the edges, either through natural wear and tear, or by design. Today's urban hip-hop denim takes a more deliberate and orderly approach to frayed denim, which you can see in our newest arrivals. The difference between distressed and deconstructed clothing is that the fraying technique follows patterns and appears intentional. Deconstruction and distressed clothing appears more natural and unintentional. Of course, you will find blurring between the definitions of frayed, distressed and destroyed, as we fashion designers adopt and use terms to fit our needs at times!
]]>With a new villain-era outlook, you need the right looks to show the world that you are standing on business.
Villain core fashion is defined by dark colors, rebellious attitudes, and edgy features like dark glasses, black lace, and what's been described as "dressing for revenge." Unlike the baddie aesthetic, which gives off C-suite, minimalistic power-suit vibes, the villain-era aesthetic gives off a tough boss-lady attitude. It's a perfect combination of feminine and masculine energy.
Think Harley Quinn of "Suicide Squad," Angelina Jolie of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and Maddy Perez of "Euphoria."
While these characters inspire great Halloween costumes, villain-inspired fashion is more than a costume. It's a statement, a vibe and a way to express yourself. You could say the villain-era fashion aesthetic is the distinct opposite of the softie aesthetic, although the softie has a quiet confidence of her own!
There are no rules to who can wear the various fashion aesthetics, and there's no rule that says you can't be a softie one day, a boss-babe the next, and a villain over the weekend. Let your vibe suit your mood.
What colors go best with villain-era fashion? Dark and rich color palettes that include black, deep purples, dark reds, and forest greens. These colors are often associated with mystery, power, and, sometimes, malevolence. You can always throw a bit of pink in there if that's your vibe, but it's really how you put together the entire look.
Luxurious fabrics and textures that are associated with wealth and status include silk, velvet and satin, as well as leather and fabrics that simulate leather and silk. Faux fur could also be associated with this fashion aesthetic.
Villain-era silhouettes tend to be exaggerated and bold, like sharp shoulders, voluminous coats, and even a cape.
This villain's fashion aesthetic is not minimalistic. Think cargo pants with straps, chains, and buckles and tops with studs and embroidered logos. Lace, especially black, is another ornate detail often found on women's villain style. Skull graphics and jewelry are popular icons in the villain-era aesthetic.
Sharp, sleek hairdos and dark lipstick and dramatic eye makeup are common among villain-era fashionistas. Although it may sound similar to the emo aesthetic, the villain-era aesthetic isn't shy or emotional; quite the contrary, the villain is unapologetic about who she is.
Boots with heels and high-heel shoes elevate this look to one of power and defiance.
What do villains wear? Whatever they want, TBH. To help you put together your villain-era style, we've pulled some favorites from RSO's pages. Here are your villain clothing ideas:
We did say dark colors are popular in this fashion aesthetic, but super stacked skinny snake jeans have villain-era written all over them. Shop Women's crop tops and super stacked high-waist jeans.
Being in your villain era doesn't mean you're a bad "guy." But that also doesn't mean you can't embrace your inner baddie with these inspired looks. A contrast puffer vest with a pair of heels is an excellent way to embrace your new confidence.
This collection of Women's latex pants has all the things for your villain era: leather-like latex, snake skin prints, and metallic fabrics, plus dark and deep colors.
Living well is the best revenge, and this collection of bodycon dresses, rompers and mini dresses is the perfect addition for your new self's wardrobe.

]]>But before you dive in, check your intentions. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you say "out with the old and in with the new."
Before you try to make him over (especially if he's hesitant), self-check and make sure your motivations are kind, helpful and empathetic. No one wants to hear that someone else doesn't like the way they dress, especially the person who's closest to them.
What is your motivation for wanting to change your boyfriend's aesthetic? If he asked you to help him with this wardrobe, that's one thing, but if he's cool with his looks, it's best to be sure you're advising fashion tips for the right reasons.
One Reddit thread, (malefashionadvice), suggests the first question to ask yourself is, "Would I love this guy even if he doesn't dress the way I think he should?" If the answer is yes, let him know that. He needs to hear that you love him for who he is, not what he wears.
How sensitive is your man to criticism? No man or woman wants to be sat down and confronted with negative criticism about the way they dress. Even the most self-assured man or woman will feel defensive. Again, if he's open to your input, great!
A fun way to "gamify" changing your BF's style (or lack of), is to propose a shopping challenge, "Dress me the way you'd want me to dress." Set a budget for your new looks, and each of you takes turns shopping for the other. He buys you an outfit that he would like and that he thinks you'd look great in, and you do the same.
(If you combine your orders from RSO, you'll enjoy free shipping on orders over $125 within the continental U.S., and all in-stock items ship fast. Don't forget to share your looks and tag #rockstaroriginal with your #couplegoals.)
Start slowly. Try adding one or two pieces as gifts and see what he thinks. Do this a few times, before you schedule a day of couple's shopping and risk overwhelming him.
If you're looking to help him match your Baddie aesthetic, before you go head-to-toe with a whole new look, start by getting him a pair of stacked jeans. Don't push him too far out of his comfort zone with super-stacked. Start with stacked, see how he likes the 'fit, and then introduce super-stacked.
Frayed denim and cargo pants are also trending this year, and you'll find a range of designs, from slightly frayed patches in monochrome styles to super-frayed, multicolor, super-stacked pants. For the guy who's easing into a new look, try a flare jean with a frayed hem or a cargo jean with frayed pocket seams.
You can't go wrong with a two-piece streetwear tracksuit. He'll love the softness and quality of the fabric, and you'll love his new look. Look for custom graphics like paint splatters, RSO logos, and graffiti-inspired graphic art. Again, if he's shy about changing his look, start with a monochrome beige, black or gray tracksuit. Then, when he's more comfortable with the luxury athleisure style, go full-on with a royal blue two-piece tracksuit with dope custom graphics.
]]>Artificial leather has a lot of different names. Faux, synthetic, polyester, imitation, artificial, and even vegan! But what do these names actually mean?
Traditional leather is made from the hide of an animal, typically a cow or a sheep. In this complex process, the hide of the animal is stripped, cleaned, tanned, and treated before it can be made into a product like a jacket or bag. This process has been around for thousands of years, but is quite difficult in the modern era and has been criticized for its unsustainability.
Faux, meaning artificial or imitation, is a blanket term that covers leather that isn’t made from animal skins. This type of leather mimics the look and feel of real leather without the same environmental effects that come from processing animal hides. Faux leather may not be “real,” but it’s generally less expensive as it’s made from easier to manufacture materials like polyester or polyvinyl.
blueplateaustin has created a number of items using some of the finest faux leather materials, including a line of Men's faux leather pants. So, we thought we'd go through the differences between types of faux leather, how to care for faux leather clothes, and the pros and cons of buying faux vs. real leather.
Any leather that’s made from synthetic material (plastic) is considered a leatherette. There are currently two different types of leatherettes: PVC and PU leather.
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, leather is comprised of layers of soft polyvinyl, which is essentially plastic, over fabric to make a look and feel similar to leather. While much cheaper, PVC leather is essentially just plastic and therefore requires petroleum to produce. Because of this, the manufacture of PVC has been criticized as it involves fossil fuels and the release of hazardous dioxins to create.
What's PU leather? PU leather means polyurethane (PU) leather, which is a far more sustainable option for faux leather. PU leather is a marked improvement over PVC leather as it’s much more complicated to produce but results in a much more sustainable material that still has a leather look and feel. Polyurethane is a material commonly used in foams and adhesives. You may even have a kitchen sponge made out of polyurethane! PU leather is noted for being less durable than PVC leather products, but far more breathable. RSO uses a blend of PU simulated leather and cotton and Spandex in our clothing materials, which produces a comfortable and more breathable fit.
A new type of faux leather, vegetable oil leather is likely to be far more durable and sustainable than PVC or PU leather. This leather is still in early stages of experimentation, though, and isn't as widely available at an affordable price.
Just like real leather, simulated leather does need special treatment in order to stay soft and not dry out. To make faux leather last as long as possible:
Synthetic leather is sensitive to harsh chemicals and soaps so avoid these! Don’t throw your faux leather clothes in a washing machine or dryer. Instead, use a soft microfiber cloth and warm water to lightly wash off your faux leather clothes. Don’t soak it in water, though.
If your faux leather comes with a clothing bag, hang it covered in a dark closet out of the sun. Faux leather, much like real leather, can dry out and the colors can fade under harsh sunlight. This results in cracking, shrinking, or even melting.
Bleach is tempting to use on serious smudges on your faux leather clothes, but the harsh chemical will break down the synthetic coating and irreparably damage your faux leather. Instead, find a cleaner specifically meant for faux leather to treat the worst of the stains.
Most faux products will come with a small tag on the inside detailing how to clean and maintain that specific article of clothing. This details whether or not the clothing is washer/dryer safe, as well as what settings can be used. For example, blueplateaustin’s Khaza Black Faux Leather Stacked Flare Jean is dry clean only.
If properly maintained, faux leather is a far cheaper alternative than real leather that can be worn for decades.
The choice between real and faux leather comes down to personal preference. If you’ve only owned real leather products in the past, you may be hesitant to try out faux leather. Consider the following pros and cons of faux leather before making a purchase:
Pajama pants, or lounge pants, are more than just garments. They're a fashion statement, an embodiment of relaxation, and the perfect attire for those who seek the ultimate blend of comfort and style. So, join us as we unravel the magic of pajama fashion and explore lounge pants' vibrant and versatile realm.
Lounge pants are a delightful hybrid of pajamas and casual wear. The name alone should tell you what they're for: lounging, relaxing, and chilling. They are a cozy and stylish alternative to regular jeans, cargo pants or leggings. Loungers are designed for relaxation, crafted from soft, breathable materials that feel like a gentle hug for your legs.
Lounge pants are your go-to choice for ultimate comfort, whether lounging at home, binge-watching your favorite series, or enjoying a lazy weekend watching football with friends.
From oversized, mismatched sleepwear to sleek and stylish lounge pants, pajama fashion has come a long way. The days of donning old, faded PJs are behind us. Today, it's all about making a statement while staying comfortable. Lounge pants have become a staple in pajama fashion because they effortlessly combine comfort with a touch of sophistication.
Lounge pants come in many styles to cater to your unique taste and preference. Whether you're into bold patterns, soothing solids, or funky designs, a pair of lounge pants is just waiting for you.
Can you actually wear lounge pants beyond the confines of your home? The answer is a resounding yes! Lounge pants have evolved to become versatile enough to make appearances in numerous settings.
What is the difference between lounge pants and pajamas? Depends on who you ask. Technically speaking, pajamas are intended for wearing while sleeping, while loung pants are intended for wearing while ... you guessed it ... lounging. Pajamas encompass a wider range of sleepwear, including sets with matching tops and bottoms (men and women). On the other hand, lounge pants are primarily the lower half of pajama sets, known for their versatility beyond sleep.
However, the lines between lounge pants and pajamas have blurred in today's streetwear fashion culture. It's all about personal style and comfort. You can mix and match lounge pants with different tops to create a unique, relaxed look that fits your personality.
Sure, what you wear can be a reflection of your character, but it also depends on how you wear it. Show up to work in lounge pants, bed head and unbrushed teeth and, yes, you might be labeled lazy. Actually, if you show up in your best suit with bed head and unbrushed teeth, you might be labeled lazy!
Would we recommend wearing pajama bottoms to work? No. We like the advice we got from our mentors that said, "Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have." But can lounge pants be dressed up for a casual workplace or night out? Absolutely.
When it comes to bedtime attire, pajama pants take center stage as the go-to choice for ultimate comfort. But not all pajama pants are created equal. The world of sleepwear offers a delightful array of options, each tailored to different seasons, preferences and occasions. Here are a few styles.
These are just a few examples, and the world of pajama pants offers countless more options to match your personal style and comfort needs.
]]>In fashion, the right pair of jeans can make a powerful statement and have always been more than just a piece of clothing. They're a canvas for personal style, a reflection of cultural trends and a symbol of self-expression. If you're a true fashion enthusiast, you know that the devil is in the details, and understanding the nuances of different styles is vital to curating the perfect wardrobe.
Let's embark on a denim journey to demystify the subtle yet significant differences between three iconic styles: Bootcut, bell bottom and flare.
To differentiate between flare, bootcut and bell bottom jeans, focus on the width of the leg opening. Here's a quick breakdown:
The key is to observe the degree of widening from the knee to the hem. The more gradual and pronounced the flare, the closer they are to being flare or bell bottom jeans. Bootcut jeans have a more subtle and practical flare designed to fit over boots.
Bootcut jeans originated in the 1960s and were designed to accommodate cowboy boots with a wider leg opening. They became popular during the 1960s and 1970s and saw a resurgence in the 1990s and early 2000s, particularly in music and pop culture.
Bootcut jeans are versatile and can flatter different body types. They work well for hourglass figures, pear-shaped bodies and tall individuals, providing balance and a classic look.
Bootcut jeans remain relevant in modern fashion. They offer a timeless style that can be adapted to contemporary looks. When worn at the right length and paired with modern accessories, bootcut jeans are a stylish choice for today's fashion-conscious people.
Bootcut vs straight-leg: The bootcut is slightly wider, to accommodate covering boots, while the straight-leg is a tighter fit. Straight-leg jeans comfortably tuck inside boots. Bootleg jeans, on the other hand, wouldn't easily tuck inside boots because they're designed with extra material to comfortable fit over boots.
Bootcut vs flare: While bootcut jeans tend to be straight, flare jeans are noticeably angled. Both types of jeans would fit comfortably over a pair of boots; likewise, neither would tuck inside boots. Bootcut jeans are more rectangular in shape while flares are more triangular. Both bootcut and flare jeans can be worn in the stacked denim fashion.
Bootcut vs bell-bottoms: Bell bottoms are an extreme version of flare bottom jeans. Both of them are more angular than bootcut.
A straight-leg jean is a classic denim style characterized by its uniform width from the thigh down to the hem. The legs of the jeans run straight from the hip to the ankle, creating a clean and simple silhouette. Unlike tapered or skinny jeans, straight-leg jeans don't narrow or flare at the leg opening.
Straight-leg jeans have been popular since their introduction in the early days of denim. They became a staple in the mid-20th century and have remained a timeless and enduring style. They have experienced a resurgence in popularity over the years, making them a consistent presence in the fashion world.
The key differences between straight-leg and bootcut jeans lie in the cut of the leg:
Flare jeans are characterized by a gradual and broader leg opening from the knee to the hem. They create a distinct bell-like or flared shape, adding a retro and '70s-inspired touch to your look. Here's a deeper dive into the world of flare if you're interested.
The flare-bottom jean has been a staple for Women's and Men's streetwear fashion, most recently showing up as stacked and super-stacked cuts. See what we mean in our Women's flare jeans and Men's flare jeans collections.
Bell bottom jeans are a style of denim pants characterized by a dramatic flare from the knee to the hem. The term "bell bottom" refers to the distinctive bell-like shape created by the wide leg opening. These jeans have been an iconic fashion choice, particularly associated with the 1960s and 1970s.
They were most popular during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. They became synonymous with that era's counterculture and anti-establishment movements, often associated with hippies and the bohemian fashion trend.
While bell bottom styles existed in nautical and military uniforms before the 1960s, it was during this period that they became a fashion statement. The widening of the leg opening was adapted for civilian fashion and became a symbol of rebellion and individuality.
Bell bottom jeans have made occasional comebacks in fashion, but they are generally seen as a nostalgic and vintage style. They may not be as commonly worn today as other styles like skinny or straight-leg jeans.
However, fashion is about personal expression, and if you appreciate the retro aesthetic of bell bottom jeans, you can certainly incorporate them into your wardrobe. Pairing them with contemporary elements can create a unique and stylish look. So, it's absolutely OK to wear bell bottom jeans today, but it's a matter of personal style. Speaking of style, here are a few tips to up your game.

Black jeans are considered to be a versatile and classic option for men's casual and even semiformal attire. They are often considered a staple in many men's wardrobes because they can be dressed up or down.
Fashion trends can change rapidly, and what's considered "in style" today can vary depending on the where you live and your own preferences. To stay up-to-date on current fashion trends, we suggest you follow us on Instagram @rockstaroriginal.
Ultimately, whether black jeans are in style for guys or not, choose clothing that makes you feel confident and comfortable and suits your personal style and the occasion. In this post, we'll take you through 10 types of black jeans that are popular among men who dig the urban street style vibe.
You'll see how black jeans can be worn as a backdrop, and then how they can elevate your look.
The basic types of jeans cuts for men, women and kids are skinny, straight-leg, tapered leg, wide-leg, boot cut, and flare bottom. You can read more about them in our post on the best jeans for your body type.
Now, those are just the basics. There are variations on all the basic jeans styles, including the following 10 cuts and styles that are common among urban, street-style fashion for men. This is a list of types of black jeans that you'll find in the urban streetwear fashion style:
The modern black cargo jeans get an urban-style update with flare legs and a super-stacked fit. (See how to wear stacked jeans). To complete the look, we left the hems unfinished and frayed, and made the cargo pockets oversized. Outfit idea: black cargo pants, black short-sleeve graphic tee, black athletic shoes and a trucker hat.
Distressed denim gets a whole new definition with these designs that feature horizontal custom rips that are then hand frayed to create this super-distressed, almost feather-like look. Outfit idea: super distressed frayed black jeans with a black denim jacket over a white or gray graphic tee.
You love your ripped black denim jeans, but on cold days, that's a little too much ventilation. The flare bottom jeans with reinforced rips or slight rips that don't go all the way through the fabric are not only great for winter, but they can be easily dressed up for a night out.
Patched jeans with unfinished stitching and frayed edges are becoming staples in the urban aesthetic closet. Our designers are innovating in this area, taking basic black jeans and stitching in colored patches in red, blue, white, camouflage, and more.
For a slightly different take on the previous style, instead of black jeans with colored patches, you'll find colored jeans with black patches.
Who said real men don't wear rhinestones? Not blueplateaustins. We've taken our classic black jean, in both stacked and skinny fits, and added Rockstar logos and rhinestone embellishments to create a very masculine take for a studly, studded black denim jean.
What are whiskers on jeans? When you site down, your pants naturally crease across your groin area, and over time, the dye fades and creates a whisker look. We've replicated that whisker effect to create dope faded black jeans for men with whisker creases.
Inspired by the hand-made style that our grandparents and parents created in the '70s and '80s, these flare-bottom jeans get an even wider split with added fabric to create a bell-bottom effect.
Biker jeans are inspired by motocross, and they're a staple in the RSO fan's close. These have been among our top-selling jeans, and it's easy to see why. Made from a cotton-Spandex blend, these jeans fit like a glove but feel like a mitten.
Our designers are always looking for new ways to take a classic cut and modernize it. The biker jean gets a stacked hem and RSO graphics for an elevated urban vibe. All the things we've been talking about on this page come together here: biker jean style, patchwork stitching, distressed wash and stacked legs.
So, what do you wear with black jeans? Black jeans are almost as versatile as traditional blue denim. They go with just about anything, but some looks are better than others. In the rest of this post, we'll answer common questions about how to match black jeans with the right shirt to create dope looks you can wear out, in and all year-round.
Black and white worn together can create some of the most polished and head-turning looks you can wear. At the same time, a plain white tee and a pair of black pants could easily be mistaken for a worker's uniform!
To elevate the look from "I look like I work here?" to "I look like I own the place," pair a graphic white T-shirt or hoodie with a pair of black jeans looks to create a classic and polished look. Finish the style with white sneakers for an athletic look, or a pair of white, black or brown loafers for a casual look.
Hoodies and layers go well with ripped jeans for men. We are also big fans of a long-sleeve black tee with ripped black jeans. Get more ideas in our black-on-black look book. Because ripped jeans can be high fashion, as well as street fashion, black jeans go well with white or black sneakers. For a statement 'fit, try a red of new red kicks with your black distressed jeans! For a polished look, wear a pair of brown Oxfords. For a head-to-toe black-on-black mens ripped jeans outfit, consider a pair of black athletic shoes, Chelsea boots or dress shoes.
Graphic tees, especially with drop-shoulder sleeves, go well with black skinny jeans and biker jeans.
Hoodies, especially in gray, black, beige and red, look dope with a pair of black jeans.
Long-sleeve and short-sleeve graphic tees make great outfits with black jeans, and this look finishes well with a puffer jacket.
Shabby chic-style weddings are in fashion in the 2020s, with bridal parties wearing boots, black jeans, and even sneakers. If you're going to an event like a wedding, holiday cocktail party or engagement party and the dress is semi casual, black jeans are the perfect choice. We'd suggest a button-down fitted shirt layered under a blazer for cooler weather.

Some might argue that this color palette is “sad beige,” but with the right accessories and patterns, this simple hue is transformed into a luxurious powerhouse style. So when choosing your neutral tones of beige, don’t shy away from shape pattern designs and eye-catching fabrics like faux leather, satin or linen. You can also mix and match color schemes for dimension in your outfits – reference our color theory tips!
For our color pop girlies that are known for their vibrant-colored OOTDs, how do you incorporate soft minimalism into your urban streetwear wardrobe? Here are 5 fashion tips to help you bring the perfect beige aesthetic to life!
Layering is a key technique when incorporating the beige aesthetic into your streetwear wardrobe. Start with a base layer in your chosen shade of beige, whether it's a nude sweater, a beige tee, or a stylish beige jacket. Then, add depth and contrast by layering with complementary colors. Ladies should opt for black stripes, dark brown geometric patterns, or crisp white layers that work beautifully to break up the monotony of beige. The key is to let beige shine as the primary color while using other shades to create dimension.
Texture is a fantastic way to add visual interest to your beige outfits. Experiment with different fabrics like faux leather, satin, and linen to create a unique and engaging look. A beige satin skirt, for instance, can add a touch of luxury to your outfit, while a linen shirt brings a more relaxed and natural vibe. The interplay of textures not only elevates your style but also keeps it fresh and exciting.
Accessories can be the cherry on top of your beige streetwear ensemble. Opt for neutral accessories like beige or nude belts, bags, and hats to complement your outfit. Minimalistic, gold or silver jewelry can also be a nice touch, providing a subtle contrast while maintaining the overall neutral theme. Remember, less is often more when it comes to accessories in a minimalist aesthetic.
Similar to texture, don't be afraid to introduce patterns into your beige wardrobe. Stripes, geometric shapes, and graphic prints can all work harmoniously with the beige aesthetic. When using patterns, ensure that they complement the beige rather than overpower it. This means that the patterns should be in neutral or subdued colors, allowing the beige to remain the focal point of your outfit.
Your choice of footwear can make or break your beige streetwear look. For a seamless blend, go for shoes that are also in beige or neutral tones. Sneakers, boots, or loafers in shades of taupe, sand, or light brown can complete your outfit and keep the focus on the beige vibes.
When styling soft beige fashion for women, you want to accentuate the beige tone the most so be sure that any shade of beige, nude or tan is the main shade. Combine your creamy shades of taupe with black stripes, dark brown geometric patterns, or complementary white layers for the perfect balanced beige outfit.
The beige aesthetic is a versatile and enduring trend that can be seamlessly integrated into your streetwear wardrobe. By following these tips and experimenting with various combinations, you can achieve the perfect balanced beige outfit that exudes modern-chic elegance while remaining true to your streetwear roots. So, don't hesitate to embrace the soft, creamy tones of beige and let your style speak volumes with its minimalist sophistication.
]]>As an iconic part of American fashion, bomber jackets are instantly recognizable. These lightweight threads are sometimes called "flight" or "aviator" jackets and usually sit high on the waistband with a knitted collar and cuffs. These knitted parts of the jacket’s outer shell help insulate the wearer from the cold without being too heavy.
Bomber jacket definition: A men's short coat that hits at the waist with a thick lining and fitted waistband and cuffs, name after the style of jackets worn by soldiers in WWI and WWII.
Today, Men's bomber jackets come in many different flavors ranging from functional to stylish. But where did this name come from?
During World War 1, many airplanes didn’t have enclosed cockpits that shielded the pilot from the elements as they flew at high altitudes. The U.S. Army began manufacturing and distributing heavy-duty leather jackets to its pilots with the specific purpose of keeping the pilot warm. With high collars and a tight cuff and waistband, the pilot would be insulated against the cold as they flew.
This trend continued into World War 2, where pilots of bombers had to fly at especially high altitudes where it was very, very cold. Because every crewmember of a bomber like a B-17 needed a flight jacket, it became colloquially known as a bomber jacket.
And so bomber jackets became an iconic part of American fashion throughout the 20th century and into the modern day. There are a lot of different styles and deviations in bomber jackets, but they usually are:
Of course there’s a lot of wiggle room for different styles and materials as a modern person isn’t likely to need a jacket that can withstand minus 50-degree weather at 10,000 feet in the air.
Bomber “baseball” jackets, for example, have sleeves colored differently from the torso. They’re also generally constructed with cotton or polyester rather than leather.
Varsity jackets, or “letterman” jackets could also be considered a variation of a bomber with the main difference being the inclusion of a sports logo, icon, or number on the back.
Other “flight” jackets may have higher collars made of heavy fur or leather with a waistband that’s less tight.
Original bomber jackets were constructed of heavy leather and wool that would insulate pilots against extreme cold. To this day, some bomber jackets still adhere to this classic style. But the bomber jacket has also evolved to encompass a wider range of materials and styles.
For example, RSO’s streetwear bomber jackets are constructed of 100% polyester to be more lightweight and comfortable in day-to-day use. Other bomber jackets may be made entirely of wool, satin, silk, or suede.
Bomber jackets are a great casual choice for fall or mild winter weather. They generally ride higher on the waist, especially when zipped up, and fit tight around your wrists. If you haven’t worn a bomber jacket before, you may be surprised at how short the bomber jacket is compared to other jackets. This is intended, though, as the bomber should meet with the middle or top of the waistband of your pants.
Bomber jackets are meant to be layered with casual clothing that matches the same colors. A simple white t-shirt with dark jeans or chinos can look with a RSO bomber jacket. Remember to contrast darker colors in your outfit with light accent colors like a pair of white sneakers.
In the winter, also consider wearing a hoodie underneath your bomber for versatility when it gets colder.
A more interesting bomber like the Scott Black Bomber Jacket can accent an outfit with a lot of neutral black colors.
Otherwise, try to pair a bomber with a unique color like the Khaki Bomber Jacket with other clothing that shares the same color shades.]]>In fashion, it’s pretty popular for brands to have a piece of clothing with a human or animal skull on it. Some brands even have logos with skulls. Skull iconography is popular among urban streetwear, hip-hop, and indie/grunge aesthetics. We’ve even seen jewelry decorated with skulls or bones. Where did this come from? Why is it so popular?
In this post, we’re going to dive into the skull to find out the historical and cultural context of the icon. We’ll also look at how skull apparel has evolved into modern day fashion.

Skull iconography goes back hundreds of years, being displayed prominently in ancient art, literature, and religious symbolism. Skulls tend to evoke thoughts of death or danger and are often used to symbolize danger or threats.
In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the prince famously considers the skull of the dead court jester Yorick and reflects on how such an object could once have held a human life. Therefore, skulls are often also associated with mortality and the end of a life cycle. Not necessarily a negative, the skull in this context is an acknowledgement of all of our eventual deaths.
The Mexican holiday Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is one such event that associates the skull with celebration of passed ancestors. During this time, families give gifts to the dead in the form of altars. These altars for the dead are often adorned with artistic renditions of skulls, or Calaveras, with bright colors and jewelry. Holiday celebrants also wear skull masks or paint their faces white and black to mimic a skull-ish visage. Spiritually, the skull symbol represents eternal life.
Of course, the skull can also be a threatening symbol of danger and death. Pirates, famously, used skull symbolism to strike fear in the hearts of sailors. Other groups, such as armed forces or bikers, will sometimes incorporate skulls into their iconography to frighten their enemies and associate themselves with death.
So, the skull is an enigmatic symbol that can mean a lot of different things. For some, the skulls represent toughness or fearlessness toward death. For others it may be a symbol of fear and intimidation. It may also be an acknowledgement of human mortality and the commitment to celebrating the lives we have.

Wearing skulls or skeletons goes back thousands of years to when humans fashioned armor or weapons out of the bones of the dead. This has evolved into wearing clothing with skull or skeleton icons and art. In modern times, wearing skulls became popular with the emergence of punk and biker culture in the 1960s and 1970s. Another popular home for skull symbolism is the goth subculture that emerged in the 1980s that often associates stark contrasting blacks and whites with skulls.
Some sources attribute mainstream usage of skulls in fashion to fashion designers Alexander McQueen or Ed Hardy, whose fashion lines featured prominent skulls. In the modern day, many jackets, hats, shoes, bandanas, scarves, and more feature skulls in one way or another.
No, skulls aren’t attributed to being symbols of bad luck or misfortune. In fact, skulls are sometimes considered signs of good luck that ward off spirits and disease.
Skulls aren’t necessarily associated with evil or ill intent toward others. They can be symbols of danger or death, but this depends on the context.
A skull ring is sometimes meant to symbolize danger, while other times symbolizing toughness or bravery in the face of death. Either way, a skull ring is definitely an eye-catching accessory.
Death and danger, mortality and life, loved ones we've lost, toughness and fearlessness, fear and intimidation, poison and caution, and even intellect (it is, after all, our brain cage!).
Skulls are often depicted without the jawbone as it makes the skull look more impassive and neutral. The inclusion of a jawbone gives a skull a laughing, ghoulish visage that isn’t desired in some fashion. Sometimes, the inclusion of a jawbone with a skull can be a symbol of laughing, especially in the face of death.
When thinking of the skull and crossbones, you may immediately think of the pirate Jolly Roger flag. While this is definitely one association, the skull and crossbones is also used to denote danger or hazards. For example, in the U.S., poisonous substances are required to have a skull and crossbones. This is so anyone, regardless of their reading ability, will immediately recognize a substance as not safe to consume.

]]>We have ideas for ways to custom design your own jeans to align with your personality and fashion preferences, just like blueplateaustin's designers do for you in our L.A.-based studio.
One of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to customize your denim jeans is through distressing. This process, involving various methods such as ripping, sanding, and bleaching, can give your jeans a vintage or worn-out look. This can be achieved at home with tools like scissors, pumice stones, and bleach. Start by marking areas you want distressed, then gradually create the desired wear-and-tear. However, it's important to remember that less is often more when it comes to distressing. Subtlety can yield an authentically aged look rather than appearing overdone. Also, there is no way to undo mistakes when you DIY distressed jeans!
See more ideas for distressing your own jeans.
Custom distressing your jeans can be fun, but it's also time-consuming and messy. Shop custom distressed designer jeans for Men and distressed jeans for Women.
Embellishing is another avenue to explore when customizing your denim. This can take several forms, from sewing patches onto your jeans to adding studs or rhinestones. Patches can come in various shapes, sizes, and designs, and can be a fun way to express your interests or beliefs. Beads, studs, and rhinestones, on the other hand, can add a touch of glamor or punk aesthetic to your denim, depending on how you use them. While these can be applied using fabric glue, sewing or using a hot-fix tool can provide more durable results.
For unique custom patchwork ideas, check out RSO's Men's patchwork pants or browse our Men's jeans where you might see something you like (free shipping on orders over $125).
Embroidery is an additional form of customization that offers limitless creativity. You can hand-embroider designs onto your jeans, or if you have access to an embroidery machine, create intricate, multi-colored designs. This not only allows for highly personalized jeans but also gives a premium, high-quality feel. From simple monograms to complex floral patterns, embroidery is a unique way to add a personal touch to your denim.
Beyond modifying the fabric itself, altering the structure of your jeans can also offer customization. This can range from simple adjustments for fit to more dramatic alterations like converting straight-leg jeans into a flared style or creating fringed hems. With some sewing skills and a good sewing machine, you can make changes that not only ensure your jeans fit perfectly but also reflect your personal style.
For more ideas on embellishing, check out RSO's collection of racer-stripe jeans, print jeans, and see what our designers are doing with bandana fabric and Men's denim.
Another trend in denim customization is dyeing. While classic blue denim never goes out of style, adding some color to your jeans can create a standout piece in your wardrobe. Fabric dye can be used to change the entire color of your jeans, or you could use techniques such as tie-dye or dip-dye to add interesting color patterns. Remember to use color-fast dye to ensure your custom colors remain vibrant even after several washes.
It's always risky when you DIY-dye and bleach any fabric. If you make a mistake, it can't be undone. For inspiration, check out RSO's two-tone Men's jeans.
Last but not least, screen printing and fabric painting are methods to create visually striking, personalized jeans. With stencils and fabric paint, you can imprint anything from simple shapes to complex scenes or typography onto your denim. This can be a fun DIY project, but there are also professionals who offer this service if you want a more polished outcome.
Our designers love experimenting with paint and paint splatter to create truly customized looks that our fans love. Check out these Men's paint-splatter jeans, where you'll find a ton of DIY-painted jeans ideas. By the way, if you see something you like while you're browsing, don't wait. Many of our custom-designed jeans are limited edition. ]]>In this post, we are going to take a little departure from our usual content that offers styling tips inspired by our LA-based designers (like this post on how to wear stacked leg jeans and this post on where rappers get their clothes). Now, we're actually telling you where you can get rid of your clothes ... so you can make room for the latest designs from blueplateaustin. Remember, when you spend $125 at blueplateaustin, we cover shipping within the U.S.
Examples of the best apps to sell used clothes are Poshmark, Thred Up, and The RealReal. Keep in mind that these companies are updating their terms all the time, so go to their "about" pages for the latest deals on their fees.
Poshmark is a social marketplace where people can buy and sell clothing (and other stuff like electronics and beauty products). Shoppers regularly spot blueplateaustin designs on Poshmark, from our very popular puffer jackets to two-piece track sets and custom distressed jeans. For more on Poshmark's fees and how to get paid, read their Guide to Poshmark. Poshmark's fees are simple: $2.95 for all sales under $15 and 20% on sales over $15. Sellers choose whether to spend their cash within the Poshmark app or cash out via cash transfer.
Thred Up is another consignment service that warehouses all of the clothing and fashion items that you see on their website. Sign up for an account, and they'll send you a cleanout bag with a return label (postage paid). If your used clothing meets their criteria, they'll list it on their site. You can cash out with ThredUp or apply your earnings toward purchases. The more your item sells for, the higher the percentage of your payout.
The RealReal bills itself as an online consignment platform for luxury brands like Dior Men, Prada, Gucci and high-end designer and couture brands. Sellers can earn rewards and statuses (Trendsetter, Influencer, Tastemaker, VIP) and earn commission rewards. The more you sell on the site, the higher your commissions, which they explain in their Commission Guide.
We have three other suggestions for selling clothes online, where sellers do the work to list the item, post photos, answer shopper questions and, ultimately, close sales and ship the clothing. You set the price, and hand negotiations. Some of the platforms (Facebook Marketplace, Ebay and OfferUp) will handle the financial transactions for a small fee.
Since Ebay launched back in the '90s, it's evolved quite a bit. It was once a quaint online platform that connected people who want to get rid of stuff with people who love to find bargains. Now, it's a major online commerce platform that includes not only individual sellers but also brands and professional sellers. To start selling used clothes on Ebay, review their how-to guide on the best way to sell used clothes. Ebay offers free listings, but you can boost your listings for a fee; they charge 13.25% of the sale price plus .30 cents per order, according to their article on selling fees. Make sure you understand shipping fees, as those can be tricky.
Facebook Marketplace is another place to sell used clothes online, although it seems to be most popular for local transactions. Marketplace does offer two types of transactions: local transactions and transactions with shipping, which you can read about in Meta's guide to Marketplace.
OfferUp is another social selling platform where you can resell clothing. As with all of these sites, the better the condition and the better your photos, the more buyers will be willing to pay for what you're selling. Shoppers can buy at your listed price or make an offer. Learn more about selling through OfferUp.
If you're searching for who buys used clothes "near me," Plato's Closet is one of the largest clothing reseller franchises in the country. They are not a consignment shop, and they tend to market to teens and college students. You bring your used clothing to them, they inspect it on the spot, and then they offer you cash for your clothing. According to their parent company's website, they have 475 locations in the U.S. See what they're buying. According to The Resale Doctor, Plato's Closet offers around 30% of what the resale value is (the price they'll put on their sales tag in the store).
You'll also find local consignment shops, especially if you live near a university or college. Their business models vary, and the amount you can make varies by location, quality of your used clothing and demand for your brands. Like online consignment shops, many offer cash prices and store credits as options (you might get a little more if you opt for store credits).
That's it! We hope this answers the question, "Where can I sell used clothes for cash," so you can clean out the closet and convert your duds to cash and upgrade your closet.
]]>In fashion circles, the color gray can symbolize athleticism (think joggers and sweats), wealth and confidence (gray pinstripe fabrics), and elegance (weddings and formal wear, especially in silver-gray). This year, gray is getting its own hashtag and cult-like following, and we're here for it.
We're loving the gray trends in fashion, especially the gray-on-gray outfits and, as we'll explain later, "groutfits."
Why is gray so popular right now? It's been a hot color for almost a decade in home decor, but it's only been in the last couple of years that we've seen a rise in popularity in fashion aesthetics. Yes, gray has always been present in fashion, but it's typically viewed as a background color or neutral accent. Today's grays are front and center.
Like many neutral tones (beige, white, black), grey not only looks dope with red, blue, orange, purple, blue, and yellow, but it can be layered with other shades of gray to create a sophisticated look.
Here are some looks to inspire your own all-gray 'fits.
Our model (above) wears a white (or off-white/light gray) T-shirt with RSO's distressed stack flare jean in shake gray, adding a dark gray durag and beige slides. Note how the light, medium and dark shades of gray create a polished look, which is nicely finished with beige slides.
Get the look: Men's gray jeans. Men's gray urban graphic tees. Men's slides (and other accessories).
A recent Vogue article suggests that the color gray will define fashion this fall. Look for gray-on-gray outfits among leading urban streetwear aesthetic brands, including blueplateaustin, as well as among indie/grunge, minimalist, athleisure and hypebeast aesthetics.
And so it goes, when a fashion trend emerges, it earns its own nickname" -- groutfit (sometimes spelled "groufit"), which has inspired some social media movements like #groutfitday and #groutfit party. Some suggest Groutfit Day is about opposing "fake drip" and "regressive fashion," while others suggest it's about letting go of stress, setting low expectations, and letting go of the little things that stress you out.
We like the latter definition. Gray = low-key vibes.
What does "groutfit" mean? It's a portmanteau of gray + outfit.
What's a portmanteau? It's a combination of two words and their meanings to create a new word, as in smoke + fog = smog. "Greige" is another portmanteau, combining grey + beige = greige.
And, while we're detouring into a linguistics lesson, many people ask, is it grey with an "e" or gray with an "a"? Grey is the preferred spelling in UK English, while gray is preferred in US English. Need help remembering? England starts with an "e," so it's grey; American starts with an "a," so it's gray.
What is groutfit day? It's a small (dare we say emerging) trend on social media where your OOTD is all gray, head to toe. When is it? Great question -- we've seen some posts that promote Fridays as Groutfit Day.
If you are looking for more Mens grey outfits ideas, look no further than our two-piece matching and coordinated track sets. Featuring hand-designed and, in some cases, hand painted custom graphics, blueplateaustin's athleisure hoodies and track pants are comfy AF and the perfect choice for Groutfit Day or groutfit theme parties.
The model above is wearing the Payshins grey hoodie trackset in heather grey (limited availability) from the RSO Art Dept. collection. Luxury track suits meet graffiti-inspired art to create this collection for Men.
Get the look: Men's long sleeve track sets in gray.
Create a layered look by adding a T-shirt to the trackset, for a gray on gray on gray groutfit OOTD, and finish it off with white or light gray accessories. Note how this all gray men’s outfit levels up our model's look against a typical city summer backdrop. The neutral gray pops against the green trees and blue sky to create a sophisticated, upscale look.
Who'd have thought gray can be playful and fun? She did. In the above photo, our model is sporting a graphic tee in gray from our Womens collection, paired with a pair of wide-leg pants.

]]>The cargo pants style for women is the best it's ever been. Today's cargo pants for women are nothing like the boxy, bulky and boring cargo jeans of the '80s and '90s.
Some conspire that cargo pants as an aesthetic is a joke, intended to poke fun at the baggy, oversized pants-with-pockets and ability to turn nearly anything into a style trend (for more on this, see the definition of cargopunk on fandom.com).
But the truth is, today's cargo pants are cute, sexy, flattering and, most important, comfy.
Keep reading for more cute cargo pants outfit ideas. RSO's LA-based design team and our influencers have put together these cargo pant styles for urban streetwear-loving ladies.
We are loving the bandeau and bikini top style with a pair of oversized, baggy cargo pants for summer looks. Perfect for a night out or a day of fun in the breezy sun, this look has a true California beachy vibe.
Experiment with different types of swimwear-style tops, including cropped halters and tanks, string bikini tops and bandeau (also known as strapless bra tops and tube tops).
We've got three suggestions for the best shoes to wear with your cargo pants: sneakers, pointy-toe heels, and sandals.
If you're wondering how to dress up cargo pants, try a pair of pointy-toe heels with women's cuffed cargo pants. This look on women has a casual sophistication that is both flattering and comfortable. You'll see RSO models and influencers wearing both stiletto and platform heels, and we don't know which one we love more!
For more street casual women's attire, you can't go wrong with a minimalist-style pair of sneakers. White, beige and lighter-colored sneakers especially look great with the modern stacked-style cargo pants. The way the bunched-up folds lay on the flat canvas or leather of your sneakers creates a casual and stylish streetwear vibe.
Our third suggestion, sandals, is a safe go-to for several styles of cargo pants. They work great with cargo shorts, cuffed cargo pants, and also skinny stacked cargos (more on those next). We LOVE this look for the baddie aesthetic!
Skinny stacked cargos have it going on. They're kinda the trifecta of streetwear pants for women thanks to their:
If you don't have skinny stacked cargo pants in your wardrobe, get these streetwear staples now. Shop cargo pants for women from blueplateaustin where shipping is free on orders over $125.
What do you wear with stacked skinny cargos? We suggest a graphic tee (good), cropped tee (better) or tank top (best). High-waist skinny stacked cargos look especially good with tanks, cropped tees and cropped hoodies.

]]>And you thought it might refer to neatly folding and stacking your laundry...
You might think stacked flare jeans are a dope, new trend, but the style has actually been around for years. Stacked jeans have also been interchangeably known as curved jeans, extended jeans, “J” shaped jeans and even elongated jeans.
But what does “stacked” mean with this trend? “Stacking” actually refers to the effect on jeans that are cut extra long so they bunch up towards the hem, forming rolls of fabric below the knee. To be an authentic “stacked flare jean,” the fabric typically must be fitted in the thighs. For all you Rockstar fellas who stay ahead of the trends, this is one style you do not want to miss out on. So here’s the story on stacked flares and how you can integrate it into your modern wardrobe.
The preference of oversized styles rose in the 90’s, and they have been fluctuating in popularity ever since. Flared denim has been evolving its look since the 1960’s and continues to elevate in style. But don’t be fooled by the name, stacked “flare” denim isn’t your average retro, flare ‘fit – it’s lengthened rather than outstretched whilst maintaining the structure of classic fitted, skinny jeans. The way we have designed our stacked denim that sets this style apart and above all others is the quality and custom designs.
RSO’s custom stacked Mens jeans come in a variety of styles, colorways, designs, fits and sizes. We are keeping in mind that this style is worn but YOU and not the other way around. So we’ve taken all of the tried-and-true looks from throughout fashion history and created pieces that just do not miss. Styles that are available are black stacked flare denim, printed cross graphic stacked flare denim and even crystal detailed stacked flare denim in light wash and medium wash colors.
So how can you integrate these custom styles in a way that is modern and on point? We have 3 tips to always keep in mind.
Distressed denim and deconstructed denim are always on brand when it comes to premium streetwear style. Especially so when ripped denim is paired with clean and solid color tees. The jean then becomes the focal point of the entire outfit without overdoing the details too much.
Even if you choose distressed denim, graphics t-shirts will always be a great complement to the overall aesthetic. We suggest this look more for casual nights out to a bar or to a laid-back club where the multiplicity of the designs won’t be too overpowering and hard to look at. Under colored lights and dancing people, graphic tees and ripped stacked flare jeans will fit perfectly and make you stand out from the rest.
An outfit will always look instantly complete and topped off when you close with your best sneakers and some iced out jewelry. There are many different sneakers that will pair well with RSO’s stacked flare jeans such as our Men’s Rae Stacked Flare Jean in light wash denim with styles like the Retro High OG Hyper Royal Jordans or the OG Silver Toe Jordans. Complete the look with a Cuban link chain and an icy piece of wrist-wear for the cleanest streetwear look.
Stay ahead of the trend and shop blueplateaustin's STACKED FLARE DENIM now! For more stacked jeans outfit ideas, follow us on Instagram. Tag us on IG for a chance to be featured!

]]>What is Barbiecore? Barbiecore fashion is more than pink, although pink is core to the fashion movement. Barbiecore celebrates women's curves, independence and Boss Babe leadership.
Let’s face it, fewer things evoke happiness like bright colors and feminine accessories. Barbiecore is the latest fashion aesthetic that combines bright and bold with girly. Barbiecore fashion references Barbie, so think of anything you would dress the iconic doll in. Most people think it’s just pink, and although pink is a core color to Barbiecore fashionistas, it’s more than that. Barbiecore is fun and classically chic.
Not all pinks are created equal. Barbie pink is hottest of hot pinks, featuring a bright and deep shade of pink. The booties that our model is wearing in the photo below epitomize Barbie hot pink.
Barbiecore is defined as a specific fashion trend that embraces an energetic yet sophisticated look. It is about much more than having the right clothes and accessories. It is also about women reclaiming their power and celebrating the divine feminine, said Erin Walsh (to CNN Underscored), celebrity stylist for Anne Hathaway’s Barbiecore look in the Valentino Fall 2022 collection show.
For the 2023 film "Barbie," costume designer Jacqueline Durran told People magazine that she simply wanted to create a look for Barbie that "sparked joy and made audiences happy." Pink is, after all, one of the happiest colors.
While there’s been a resurgence of its popularity since Valentino's show, many celebrities and fast fashion houses have joined this pink popularity bandwagon, especially female rappers like Nikki Minaj, Lizzo, and Megan Thee Stallion. Ultimately, Barbiecore represents the idea that these outfits don’t just have to be reserved for dolls, but can be worn in real-time too.
The Boss Babe and Baddie aesthetics pay homage to similar feminine ideals, but in more monochromatic looks instead of the bright and bold pink and other colors a Barbiecore girl may wear. Barbie fashion trends have always been maximalist, meaning she has had a mix and match of different outfits, accessories, and jobs. Ultimately, Barbiecore embraces the statement that wearing bright, pink, or girly things reduces who someone is.
While the aesthetic does take much of its definition from the blond hair, blue eyes, thin, and "perfect" hourglass-shaped doll, it has evolved to include every woman. Barbiecore celebrates women of all shapes and sizes, regardless of race or ethnicity. Talk about powerful!
Barbiecore's Boss Babes take ownership of the color pink and turn it into a power color, and no, we don’t just have to wear it on Wednesdays!
Barbie represents both female empowerment and the fact that women can do whatever their hearts desire. This goes for how to dress in Barbiecore clothes too. While there are some core essentials that are associated with the fashion aesthetic, they can also be dressed down for a more athleisure look with the right accessories.
Some of Barbiecore’s key essentials pay ode to the Y2K aesthetic with its bright, fun, and in-your-face style. This element of nostalgia helps ensure that it remains relative as other fashion aesthetics come and go.
Ultimately, most of what people wear for a Barbiecore look is lighthearted, playful, and fun. Some of its core essentials that can be found in the blueplateaustin collection include:
The Chanel Pink High Waisted Activewear Set is a staple for getting your daily caffeine fix, running errands, or getting to your CrossFit class on time.
Pretty much any top that screams pink (or any other bright fun color) fits this aesthetic.
Whether a mini dress, body con, and everything in between, Barbie girls wear fun, Y2K-inspired dresses like the Poppy O-Ring Zipper Midi Dress. With a midi length, you can style it with your favorite heels to glam it up even more.
Yes, we go all pink. The Harlow jogger pant from blueplateaustin features brand logos with graphics on a snake print design. With a drawstring waist and cuffed hems, this says comfort and cute all-in-one.
blueplateaustin’s collection of puffer jacket comes in a variety of colors, including bubblegum pink. With a ribbed knit trim, it has slant zipper pockets that accentuate every body type, especially those with curves.
Whether biker shorts or pink denim, anything pink and short can fit this aesthetic perfectly.
Matching sets are an easy way to look cute without trying too hard. For the Barbiecore look, we have a whole page dedicated to the mini pink dress that would have Barbie herself saying, yes. You'll occasionally find in RSO's online store cute pink hoodie outfits, and those go FAST! Need more? Get ideas for pink jean outfits.
The all-in-one outfit, Pia Pink Romper comes in fuchsia with a plunge neckline and a ruched bottom, talk about cute!
Whether heart-shaped glasses or a Pink Trucker Hat, accessories are what bring this entire girly, too-cute look together. Shop pink accessories today.

]]>This is your time to shine, explore different styles and figure out who you are ... or at least, who you are right now. Coming at you from our design studios in Los Angeles, we've got outfit ideas for back to school school, college edition.
First, and perhaps most importantly, get some good walking shoes. College campuses are not known for offering excellent parking options, so expect to walk more than 10,000 steps a day, according to one study (AJHE). If you're living on campus in a dorm or university apartment housing, you're most likely going to share a bathroom. Slides are a must-have in college dorms and apartments.
Second, and you may have heard this from your parents: Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have. Yes, you're a college student, but you're making acquaintances and building relationships with mentors, professors and through internships who can help you launch your career. Don't show up to class wearing pajamas.
What to wear to class? Go for comfort.
Our two-piece matching track sets for Men will become your favorites on campus. They're comfortable and stylish, featuring some of the hottest urban streetwear graphic designs at incredibly affordable prices.
College classrooms can be unpredictably hot or cold -- rarely perfectly heated or cooled -- so the layered look of a two-piece track set is perfect. These work well, too, on virtual classroom days, when you're dialing in from the comfort of your hand-me-down couch.
For an interesting twist on the traditional letterman jacket, check these urban style varsity jackets for men. They come in a variety of colors, and many are priced under $100. The ribbed trim cuffs and hems help keep you warm on windy days, and you'll love bonus features like hidden cell phone pockets.
Want more collegiate looks? For on-campus intramural sports and trips to student center, check out our Men's Varsity Collection. We've got tanks that are perfect for fitness days, on or off the court, and don't forget the basketball shorts.
Don't show up for a study date looking like you just rolled out of bed. Dress to impress with casual comfort that shows you've got style.
Start with stacked jeans, perfectly bunched over a clean, fresh pair of kicks. Check out our paint-splatter designs, split-seam legs, and distressed denim. The stacked jean is the hottest look for 2023-24, and you've got it going on.
Up top, pick up a coordinated or matching graphic tee, and finish your look for fall and winter with a Men's puffer coat. If you go to school in a warmer -- lucky you -- check out these urban streetwear, custom designed lightweight bombers, wind breakers and jackets for guys.
If there's one last piece of advice we have for you, it's this: Learn how to wash your clothes so they last as long as possible. Learn the best way to wash clothes and the best way to wash (and dry) jeans. If you've got the space to hang clothes to dry, do it for your jeans and hoodies. ]]>At RSO, we’re hyped about streetwear and there’s no greater inspiration than the streets of L.A. Our designers are influenced by the surrounding areas as our lab sits in the heart of the city. We’re exposed to the energy, the art, the messages and the passion from the locals and we amplify that vibe with our streetwear. Like art complements each other in the streets, our styles complement one another from head to toe.
If you want to pair dope graffiti-inspired styles with more drippy streetwear pieces, you need to consider a balance of designs and colors. For example, if your graphic tee is loud, you’ll want to pair that with solid denim jeans so the focus stays on the t-shirt and vice versa. Pairing your tees and jeans in a complementary way will make others notice your aesthetic. Our fellas can achieve the perfect complement of colors using color theory, and the same ideas will also work for women.
Let’s not get anything twisted – graffiti-inspired streetwear doesn’t always mean tees, jeans and sets spray painted and washed. The designs of graffiti aesthetic can be much more intricate and diverse. This means color block designing, custom character graphics, rubber silicone printed logos, bleach styling and even provocative expressions. What makes graffiti streetwear come to life is the cultural essence behind it fused with seasonal elements. So in the summertime, you’ll see lots of urban short sets and customized graphic tees for men and women. During the fall and winter months, you’ll see bold colors intertwined with elements like fur lining, matte or metallic finishes, rhinestones and paint splattered details.
Once you have the fit picked out, move on to the streetwear essentials: accessories! No streetwear fit is complete without one of the following elements, if not all of them:
Adding any one of these details will tie the streetwear look together for a brand new, upgraded look. So when you’re ready to try something new and daring, shop blueplateaustin’s dope urban streetwear for men and women, and don’t forget to cop something from our Graffiti collection while supplies last!
blueplateaustin established itself as an OG graffiti and street artist clothing brand when our first pair of distressed denim jeans rolled off the design floor in LA. Since then, we've been synonymous with graffiti clothing, streetwear and wearable street art. For more outfit inspo, follow us on Instagram.
]]>This new jeans trend started in the early 2020s and has evolved from stacked to super stacked. Stacked jeans are slightly flared at the bottom, similar to boot-cut denim, and made deliberately long, so the extra material stacks above the shoe. The more folds, the more dope the look.

Grey is the new black. Streetwear-loving men and women are loving these jeans in light and dark shades of grey. Check out RSO's split-seam jeans in grey, along with stacked denim pants.

One of our favorite trends in jeans is the cargo pant with oversized pockets. RSO's designers have exceeded expectations, delivering innovative looks for the urban hype beast and fashionista.
Guys: Check out the mixed-pattern cargo jeans for men with camouflage, light blue denim, khaki denim and distressed denim. Note the oversized utility pockets, fit for carrying smartphones, wallets and whatever else you need.
Ladies: You will love love love the cute cargo jeans, featuring a variety of fits. Look for high-waist, flare-leg cargo jeans, ripped jeans (very trendy!), and a variety of modern colors.

The fourth current jeans trend we're highlighting is called open-hem jeans. Some stylists refer to this look as a deconstructed hem.
You'll find two types of open-hem jeans in streetwear clothing. The first is hemless jeans, where the denim fabric was never stitched and was intentionally left frayed at the hem.
In the second type of open-hem, the stylists remove existing hems, leaving traces from the folds, as well as remnants from the stitching. This look is extremely popular with urban men's jeans, adding to the frayed look that is in high demand. You'll see the open-hem jeans in all of the previous trends -- stacked denim, cargo jeans, and, of course, many shades of grey!

Graffiti is synonymous with urban style trends. It's an art form that young men and women have used for decades to express themselves, their frustrations and even their rebellion. Current jean trends are exploding with custom graffiti designs and graphics, especially in our Men's collection. Look for RSO logos, custom paint splatters and graffiti lettering. No urban streetwear closet would be complete without graffiti designs. Be sure to look at the New Arrivals for the latest styles.
]]>First, let's start by defining what the meaning of drop shoulder is within the fashion industry.
In fashion terms, drop shoulder construction refers to a type of T-shirt, top or sweater where the armhole falls past the natural shoulder line. Here are two men's T-shirts, side by side, where the drop-shoulder style is on the left, and the regular, set-shoulder is depicted on the right.
You can see in the drop-shoulder style, not only is the shoulder seam below the natural line of the shoulder, but the armhole is also larger. The body of the T-shirt is basically the same boxy style, but the sleeve’s position and cut gives the T-shirt a different look. Both styles work for urban streetwear aesthetics.
What's the difference between dropped shoulder sleeve and a regular sleeve? Like, how does it look on a typical guy? A regular sleeve, also known as a set-in sleeve, is designed to follow the lines of a typical shoulder. The pattern follows the natural breakpoint of anyone's shoulder. Next, we use an artificial intelligence tool to generate photos showing how the look fits on an average-height man.
Using the same artificial intelligence picture creator, we generated two looks that feature the drop shoulder. In the first one, you can see how the AI model’s natural shoulder line is above the shoulder seam on the long-sleeve T-shirt. The look is casual and comfortable. The body of the T-shirt is fitted, while the sleeve has a more relaxed fit.
In the next AI-generated picture, our AI model is wearing a drop-shoulder jacket. Note the oversized fit with the stacked sleeve. The look is casual, but not so casual that it looks sloppy. How do you achieve this look in the real world? We get to that next!
Drop shoulder construction has gone through iterations over the years, like any fashion trend. In the ‘90s, drop-shoulder button-down shirts were popular among rappers and hip-hop artists, especially Tommy Bahama-style button-downs, flannels and, depicted below, jean jackets.
Today, drop shoulder construction is trending in Men’s urban streetwear. Look for this style in short-sleeve T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, and jackets. There are other applications as well, but those are the most common, especially in the urban streetwear aesthetic, which is what blueplateaustin is all about.
Drop-shoulder construction is trending in RSO’s Men’s collection. The trick to pulling off the drop-shoulder look is wearing it in a way that doesn’t look like you’re wearing clothes that don’t fit. You can see how easy it would be to go from fashionable ‘fit to frump.
Style tip #1: Balance an oversized T-shirt with fitted, skinny or super-stacked straight-leg jeans.
In our first look, our real-life model is wearing RSO’s super-stacked red jeans with frayed patches. They’re cut to fit his legs, so they don’t look oversized or baggy. This is a perfect balance for the oversized paint-splattered graphic tee.
Style tip #2: Match your body type to the right drop-shoulder tee
The drop-shoulder look can look dope on one body type and droopy on another. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear this style; it simply means, if you’re going to wear it, know your body type so you can copy the right style.
If you have a thinner build like the guy n the next photo, opt for a drop-shoulder tee that’s fitted through the trunk. It’s a relaxed fit that doesn’t look bulky or too big. On a thinner person, oversized clothing can make you look even thinner; if you’re trying to bulk up your build, the baggy look may not be for you. This, guy does it right — he opts for a dark color, which doesn’t detract from his thin build and a drop-shoulder T-shirt that’s fitted through the middle.
Style tip #3: Stack those jeans with your drop-shoulder tee
Stacked jeans and drop-shoulder tees go together like peanut butter and jelly. They were made to go together. In the next look, this real-life model is wearing a denim bucket hat, a drop-shoulder RSO tee, and super stacked jeans from RSO. The look is casual enough for day or evening, and we guarantee his comfort is real!
Style tip #4: Go monochrome
The goal when wearing oversized drop-shoulder tees, shirts, hoodies and jackets is to dress with intention. One of the ways to achieve this is by creating a monochrome look like the black-on-black below. Note how the graphic tee and stacked black track pants create a neat, put-together look. The black shades, black watch and black-and-white kicks finish off a look that is polished and ready for whatever.

]]>And our fans are loving it.
Why? For some, it's all about the humor. For others, it's all about creating "made you look" moments. Yet for others, it's an IDGAF statement of rebellion.
"People will stare, make it worth their while," writes hip-hop artist and RSO brand ambassador @lightskinmarcus on his Instagram feed.
Rock stars, hip-hop musicians, graffiti artists and rappers gravitate toward controversial clothing brands for their provocative designs and messages.
Offended by what you see? Cancel them. They don't care.
When someone wears a controversial tee, crude humor or insulting T-shirt, they want to make a bold statement. They enjoy pushing societal boundaries. With slogans ranging from dirty "Eat Pussy It's Healthy" to arrogant "Sex Money Respect," these controversial tees can evoke mixed reactions, drawing both supporters and critics. They have the power to spark conversations, challenge taboos, and, in some cases, ignite controversy.
Given the potential for offensive clothing to cause discomfort or distress, certain designs have been banned or restricted in various contexts. T-shirts featuring explicit language, graphic imagery, or derogatory content are often subject to restrictions in public spaces, schools, and workplaces.
Adult humor shirts may not be protected by First Amendment rights when it comes to air travel in the U.S., for example. There have been many stories of airline personnel and transportation security officers censoring T-shirt-wearing rebels for controversial messages.
While the debate surrounding freedom of expression versus protecting societal norms continues, these bans aim to strike a balance between individual liberties and maintaining a respectful environment.
Our advice? Choose your battles. Save the obscene T-shirts for parties, clubs, and events. Got a flight or a job interview? Yeah, no. Just don't.
Dirty humor shirts and t-shirts with vulgar sayings have found their place in the realm of comedy and satire. For example, RSO's designers look for ways to employ clever wordplay ("Girls Cum First"), double entendres, and exaggerated imagery.
While some view these designs as harmless amusement, others argue that they perpetuate a culture of crassness and disrespect. The subjective nature of humor makes it difficult to draw a definitive line between what is merely offensive and what qualifies as humorous or satirical.
The demand for offensive clothing, particularly among young urban men and women, has fueled the growth of online platforms and dedicated stores that cater to this niche market. Designer urban streetwear brands provide a wide range of choices for men and women who want apparel that aligns with their preferences, humor, and attitudes.
If you're easily offended by naughty T shirt designs, then RSO's Sex Club collection probably isn't for you. And that’s okay because we have a huge selection of other dope streetwear with modest hype.
Critics argue that supporting brands that thrive on offensive content can perpetuate a culture of disrespect and contribute to the normalization of offensive language and imagery. Conversely, proponents of freedom of expression argue that individuals should have the right to express themselves, even if it challenges societal norms or sensibilities.
Controversial clothing brands that offer offensive and vulgar designs have found a niche in the fashion industry, attracting consumers who seek to push the boundaries and challenge social norms.
Adult T-shirts with dirty quotes, double entendres and snarky sayings generate attention and foster dialogue. They also ignite controversies and stir ethical debates.
We're cool with that.
]]>What makes today's cargo pants and cargo shorts so dope? Cargo shorts and cargo pants are staples in today's streetwear aesthetic, especially when they feature stacked hems, urban graphics, and distressed details. Today's cargo pants have oversized pockets with high quality closures such as zippers, snaps, and buttons. They're practical for whatever you need to carry.
We'll explain how to style cargos, including what shirts go with cargo pants and what shoes to wear with streetwear cargo pants and shorts. Plus, we'll include photos for your outfit inspo with links to where you can buy these looks.
When styling men's cargo pants outfits, you can keep it as simple or as layered as you want.
If you're a bit of a minimalist, a simple T-shirt with cargo pants and white kicks is a no-brainer. He’s vibing with mixed a dark gray tee with khaki gray cargo pants with stacked legs. His coordinating bucket hat and simple statement chain tie the minimalist look together. The gray-on-gray cargo pants 'fit works for casual wear to work, dinner out or date night.
If you're into the baggy streetwear vibe, take the same look — a fitted plain tee and cargo shorts or pants — but switch up one fitted piece for an oversized piece. Baggy cargo pants and a fitted tee or an oversized tee with fitted cargos. The balance fitted with baggy creates a put-together look that won't appear sloppy, especially if you wear the right accessories.
This dude's layers are perfect. Stacked cargo jeans, white paint splatter tee, and a varsity jacket from the RSO Varsity Collection. Why this look works well is all about the layers. The southbill trucker cap and black shades give this guy confidence in his varsity letter jacket. Anyone gonna tell him he can't wear pink? Nah. Don't think so.
The look also features another jacket from the Men's varsity collection, this time in classic red. He’s wearing super-stacked brown cargo pants, a graphic tee from our band collection, and a red jacket with skulls and logos. He could even add a French tuck in the front for an even more polished, put-together style.
What do you wear with cargo shorts? Short-sleeve graphic tees, including our signature rock-band and vintage style band T-shirts, go especially well with RSO’s Men's cargo shorts. We like this guy’s fitted look with the baggy cargo pants and fresh white kicks. We might have ditched the socks, but sometimes comfort trumps fashion.
First up, we have khaki cargo pants in a straight-leg fit paired with a baggy brown racing-themed graphic T-shirt and black-and-orange high tops.
Next up, with a tip of the hat to the combat-wear aesthetic, the black-on-black aesthetic, and maybe even a little gorp-core, this badass look starts with a sleeveless zip-front hoodie, black straight-leg cargo jeans, and is finished with black combat-style boots. If you don’t want to go completely shirtless, a plain black tee completes the #blackonblack look; alternatively, a plain white tee can’t go wrong.
Last, it’s RSO’s version of the cult classic three-wolf howling shirt. Ours has five wolves, because five is better than three. We like the look with camouflage cargo jeans or shorts and either sandal slides or white kicks.
]]>Did you know that there are dozens of shades of black? C Color classifies black into four types:
If you look good in warmer colors, try to find blacks that have yellows and reds. How can you tell? If you tend to look good in cool colors like blues and purples, try to find black clothing that is in cool shades of black. How can you tell? To the untrained eye, black is black. But if you hold a black fabric next to a color wheel (available on hundreds of websites by searching “color wheel example”), you can judge whether the black tends to align more with the warm half of the wheel or the cool half. The warm half of the wheel is dominated by reds, yellows and oranges; the cool half is dominated by blues, pinks and greens.
Or, you can skip all of this warm vs cool assessment and just ask a trusted friend, “How does this look on me?”
And now, for your browsing pleasure, here are 8 ways to wear black for men, women and couples.
What’s not to love about this look? One of the subtle ways to make all black fashion work outfit is to vary your fabrics. In this look, from blueplateaustin’s Black Label collection, the shine of the RSO logo and lettering creates a dope look that’s perfectly balanced by the black cap and bright white kicks.
Why this look works: The bright white kicks nicely balance the heavy head-to-toe black, including the black-on-black lettering of the blueplateaustin logos.

]]>Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the revenge dress makes its appearance after a recent break-up. Once the phase of grief and sadness subsides comes the era of peace and rediscovery. And what better way to make an entrance than in a brand new, revenge outfit for her? We feel for our loving ladies who were done wrong, and we want to give you the proper inspiration to celebrate your reawakening.
Relationships coming to an end are always a process to go through. And we support the ladies who have recently gone through the end of an era, or are currently going through the end of a relationship. To make things a little sweeter, and to help you get back to your glowing self, we have a few tips, tricks and outfit ideas for your revenge clothing:
Statement tops: Finding your sparkle again after such a draining experience is difficult to say the least. Oftentimes, you may not have the energy to dress up and go out right away. That’s okay! If you want to keep it casual but still make a vengeful statement that screams, ‘YOUR LOSS, BABY,’ try a cute tank top, v-neck cropped top, strapless bandeau top or mesh top.
Iconic jeans: Of course, you need some bottoms to go with your revenge tops. Our favorite look to make your iconic single-girl debut is definitely with some super stacked jeans or super stacked PU pants. These bottoms are the best form-fitting pants that you need to exude fierce and fashionable energy.
Revenge dresses: Taylor Swift said it best: “They say looks can kill and I might try – I don’t dress for women, I don’t dress for men – Lately I’ve been dressing for revenge.” Your revenge dress should be the paradigm of power that radiates brazen confidence. After a break-up, you want to show your ex that they did not win the gift of your autonomy, and you came out better than ever because of it. Think LBDs with risqué lines and sexy cuts.
Your revenge fashion choices should include attributes such as form-fitting silhouettes, body-contouring fits, bold cuts, alluring colors and tantalizing fabrics. You want your ex to do a double take and question your new-found shine that came from being without them. There’s no better way to show your ex they should have treated you better than to remind them of your vigor, vast potential and gorgeous charm all wrapped up in a tasteful mini dress. Stay chic in a strapless midi dress, or turn it up a notch with a posh mini dress. Plunging necklines and low back lines are also hallmark elements of a flawless revenge look. If you’re going for a ‘looks could kill,’ ‘femme fatale’ approach, opt for red dresses and red lips to really make a statement.
It’s no secret that fashion can be rendered in many ways. Deployed as a defense mechanism post break-up is not outside the realm of translation. You can declare so much with a few choice styles that fit the motive – and the motive is poetic justice. So after the dust settles, and you’re ready to face the grit and grind, turn your pain into power and dress with a vengeance. Welcome back, honey – and say hello to your villain era!
]]>Updated Dec. 15, 2023 (Original post date June 8, 2023)
]]>Although the titles in this post suggest that too-long pants are a problem, the truth is, long-leg jeans, cargos and skinnies are in style, especially among streetwear aesthetics. If you're looking for hacks, quick fixes and styling tips for pants that are too long, blueplateaustin is here for you. Follow us on Instagram for more stacked-denim style inspiration.
In streetwear lingo, the style is referred to as stacked and super-stacked jeans. For examples, browse our Men's stacked pants and Women's stacked bottoms. The too-long style can be found in cargo pants, skinny jeans, boot cut jeans, track pants, and sweatpants, all of which are popular cuts in the streetwear aesthetic.
Stacked jeans and stacked pants refer to men's or women's pants that are extra long and, rather than cuffing, folding, rolling or turning up the extra fabric, it's bunched at the foot to create a cascading effect. Super stacked simply means it's even longer, with even more fabric.
For more formal, dressy aesthetics, you probably want to seek the services of a tailor, who can hem your jeans to fit you perfectly. Be sure to take with you the shoes you intend to wear, so your tailor can ensure the hem sits perfectly below your ankle.
For more casual looks, there are 5 ways to fix long pants without sewing, which we'll cover next:
Stacked hems are the most popular and modern way to style long jeans. In fact, RSO’s stacked jeans for men and women are designed deliberately long, so the extra fabric bunches in the leg. We experimented with this look in 2022, it really took off in 2023, and it's expected to soar through 2024! We’ve incorporated the stacked-leg look into our distressed streetwear denim, patchwork ripped denim, frayed denim and split-seam flares. You can get more styling ideas for stacked denim, and shop for stacked jeans for men at blueplateaustin.
The easiest and quickest hack for "fixing" pants that are too long is by stacking the legs. This 30-second video shows how to wear stacked jeans.
Streetwear fashion is casual and comfortable, perfect for a night out or a night in, traveling, casual date night, working from home and even office-casual wear.
However, for everyday casual looks, you can style your jeans to create dope looks without the services of a tailor thanks to the super stacked trend perfected exclusively by blueplateaustin. Here are three ways to style jeans that are very long: stacking, cuffing, and rolling.
Ready for a little fashion history? So, back in the day, when cowboys and ranchers wore denim because it was durable and practical, jeans were made to fit the tallest men (source: KipperandChalk). That meant that all men’s jeans came in the same lengths. So, shorter and average-height men had to fold up their jeans to cuff them. Cuffed pants became fashionable in men’s suits, too, in the 1920s and 1930.
Ok, but we live in the 2020s, and the question is, “Is it ok to cuff long jeans today?” It depends on who you ask, and, of course, how you do it.
If you do cuff your denim, here are a few basic guidelines:
The more you wear your jeans with cuffs, the more the denim will wear and naturally fray at the cuffs. You might be OK with that, as naturally distressed denim jeans are on trend too. If you don’t want your jeans to wear at the cuff, consider altering the folds each time you wear them. Also, again, consider having your jeans professionally tailored or, even better, go for the stacked jean look. It’s very hot for the 2020s.
According to the Denim Hunters wiki, cuffs should not sit higher than the top of your shoes, and they should correspond with the fit of your jeans. So, skinny and slim-fit jeans should have smaller cuffs while wide-leg and flares should have bigger cuffs (or no cuffs). RSO’s designers prefer to see stacked hems on the wide-leg and flare-bottom denim.
Turn-ups, AKA turned-up jeans, are another word for cuffed jeans, especially in menswear. There was a trend a few years ago with women's wear, which saw wide turned-up hems, well beyond today's recommended 2 inches. That style was short-lived and didn't really catch on in the streetwear aesthetic. You're more likely to see stacked folds for men and women.
TBH, you won’t see a lot of turned up Mens or Womens jeans in streetwear, especially on RSO’s pages. We’re partial to deconstructed and stacked hems. Denim looks for 2023 are wide and loose for men and women, and these styles don’t bode well for turn-ups.
Jeans folded at the bottom is another word for the cuffed jeans trend. It simply refers to a fold -- single or double (but never more than two folds) -- which creates a cuff at the bottom. A crisp fold in the hem of long jeans is especially popular with skinny jeans.
One of the common questions we get is, how high can you fold your jeans' hem? Is it OK to show ankle? Or should the fold cover part of the shoe?
The answer isn't straightforward (is it ever?). The length of your jeans depends on: the season, the shoe or boot you're wearing, and the cut of your jeans.
For the current streetwear style, longer jeans with stacked legs that sweep the floor are in style. You'll also see shorter trends, especially in summer and for warm-weather vacation looks.
In the 1980s, tight-rolled jeans were all the rage, and the tighter around the ankle, the better. To achieve the look, for women especially, you’d pinch the bottom of the pant leg at the seam, and then tightly roll it to just above the ankle. Some people referred to this style as pinch roll, French roll, or pegged hems (see it in this article on the80sand90s.com). This sort of rolling or pegging is not back in style (thank goodness).
Is any style of rolling jeans OK? Some fashion aesthetics adopted variations on rolled hems, but only for certain types of pants. Here are the guidelines:
Many stylists agree that cuffed pants make people look shorter.
The Coolist suggests if you must, shorter men should keep cuffs to about 1.25 inches; taller men may cuff up to 1.75 inches. Even casual cuffs will draw attention. If you are trying to draw attention away from your legs and shoes, don’t cuff your denim; if you don’t care, then cuff away.
Stacked denim, on the other hand, elongates your leg because the hem can actually drag the ground, below your shoes. This is a casual look, not for formal wear, suits or dress pants for men. It looks great with a pair of fresh, white kicks. Women can rock the stacked denim look, too, with a pair of heels, booties or kicks. (We’d probably avoid slides and sandals, as stacked hems will get caught between your feet and your shoes!).

Take for instance athleisure wear, which incorporates jerseys, tracksuits, basketball tanks, and the like into wearable streetwear fashion.
Fun fact: The acronym GORP stands for Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts, which is a common way to describe trail mix.
Gorpcore is close to campcore, adventurecore, scoutcore and naturecore aesthetics, all of which celebrate connecting with nature. Or, at least looking like you connect with nature.
The gorpcore aesthetic is an easy fashion style for men and women. Its mainstream appeal can be attributed to its combination of comfort and utility. Gorpcore prepares you for the elements and outdoor activities, but it's still comfortable like everyday clothes.
As for the gorpcore fashion aesthetic, its colors tend to be earthy or nature-inspired. Think browns, grays, greens, and oranges. blueplateaustin carries a variety of pieces that fit in every gorpcore’s closet, including beige, brown jeans, and orange jeans. It’s no surprise that gorpcore fashion is popular among fans of streetwear fashions, as the ability to look effortless combined with functionality is popular in today’s world.
Ultimately, with the gorpcore street style, silhouettes tend to be looser and baggier, so it’s easy to layer. The pants are often wide with pockets for comfort; however, they can also be slim, so they are easy to tuck into boots while in nature. Cargo jeans loosely fit with oversized pockets go well with a fitted graphic tee and a puffer coat or hoodie.
Logos and brands are important in this fashion aesthetic. The appeal is accessibility, so brands that are easy to shop for and that follow popular fashion trends are featured most often. The difference between the hypebeast aesthetic and the gorpcore aesthetic is that the hypebeast is all about brands and not functionality, and gorpcore wears useful fashion pieces that are intended for the outdoors.
Outerwear is probably the most important feature of gorpcore especially when transitioning from one season to another. Puffer jackets are key to a gorpcore fashion aesthetic. Look for puffer jackets and puffer vests in muted earthy tones like brown, beige, green and camo.
Cargo pants may be the most functional pants on the market. RSO carries both Men’s cargo pants and Women’s cargo pants in various colors. The Slump Multi Cargo Jean seems to embody everything that is gorpcore street style. Not only does it feature earth tones, but they also have pockets and a slim fit that can be easily tucked into hiking boots during a nature walk.
The best shoes for the gorpcore aesthetic are sneakers designed for hiking, as well as Briscoe slides and hiking boots. Search through our collection of Men’s shoes to find streetwear shoes that complement your style and wardrobe.
When you’re looking for gorpcore fashion aesthetic pieces, blueplateaustin offers a large variety of fashion pieces for both men and women that fit the gorpcore aesthetic. Best of all, we sell items that are in both regular and plus sizes, so it’s easy to find something for everyone here.
